Sweet dumpling squash, also known as sugar dumpling squash, is a small winter squash with a hard, cream-colored and mottled green skin that grows to approximately the size of a large grapefruit. Its sweet flavor, which pairs well with maple syrup and other sweet glazes, makes it a flavorful treat that can be used in both sweet and savory dishes.
Sweet dumpling squash is round with deep ridges. While their skin is tough, it is considered edible. It has flesh that is pale yellow or orange in color, stringy pulp, and seeds that can be roasted and eaten as a snack. Sweet dumpling squash can be prepared in the same ways as other winter squash, such as roasting, baking, sautéing, simmering, and steaming. You can even cook it in the microwave!
