Organic Meiwa Kumquat (0.9-1.0 lb)

A relatively new hybrid of the Japanese kumquat, Meiwas are the offspring of the Nordmann seedless Nagami and Marumi varieties. Meiwas are squat and oblong-to-round in shape, with an orange-yellow peel. They have a thick, nearly seedless pulp that tastes relatively sweet for a kumquat and a sweet-spicy rind. These are unwaxed and grown organically on Garcia Organic Farm in De Luz, CA.

Kumquats are the smallest fruit in the citrus family. About the size of a grape, this fruit is typically enjoyed eaten whole, but because of its sour flavor with a hint of sweetness, it is also delicious in the form of a decadent jam. Kumquats are actually like an inside-out orange: sweet skin and tart pulp.
