Pepino Melon is an oval-shaped small fruit with a soft, edible golden skin that has distinctive purple and greenish-yellow stripes. The flesh of the pepino is prized for its light, pleasant vanilla scent with honey notes. Surprisingly, the light flavor is a delicate blend of cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Pepinos are frequently served in fruit or spinach salads, or cut in half and served individually with a sprinkling of fresh lemon or lime juice and chile powder.

Ripen pepinos at room temperature, uncovered and out of direct sunlight if the creamy yellow background skin areas have a greenish tint. Pepinos are fragrant when ripe and will yield slightly to pressure.
