In light of COVID-19, how have you further enhanced your safety policies and procedures?
Health and safety of our staff and customers is always a top priority.
Our staff are required to wear masks at all times and wash their hands frequently, as well as participate in contactless temperature checks in the morning.
We always ask employees feeling unwell to remain home and offer a comprehensive paid time-off policy to ensure there’s no concern over job security in doing so.
All surfaces are cleaned with extreme frequency throughout the day, with daily deep sanitation cleaning.

What is Umamicart?
Umamicart is an online Asian grocer offering a curated selection of both timeless staples and new, distinctly Asian American products and ingredients, delivered conveniently to customers’ doorsteps. We currently have products across East Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines, and while we don’t claim that our selection is all-encompassing, we are proud that our selection represents products, suppliers and brands that we love and trust. Where do you source your products?
Our team is devoted to curating a selection of high-quality and delicious products by partnering with reputable distributors and independent brands. That means every product we offer is vetted by our sourcing team, who work closely with each one of our suppliers to ensure every product is up to our standards.
How are your products assembled? / How do you keep my items from being damaged in the boxes?
Your order will arrive in a corrugated cardboard box, sealed with reinforced paper tape. We pack your box carefully to ensure that all items arrive at your door in good condition, and that a safe temperature is maintained while your box is in transit.
- Glass and fragile items are wrapped with protective material.
- Heavy items, like rice, are packed at the bottom of your box with produce on top
- Frozen and refrigerated items are packed in a separate, chilled chamber with frozen gel packs to maintain temperature while in transit.
How do I know my food will arrive fresh?
Our boxes are designed to keep your food within the optimal temperature range using sustainable insulation and ice packs. If you purchased any perishable foods, we suggest that you refrigerate your box as soon as it arrives, but no stress if you’re not around; your box will stay cold until around midnight on the day it arrives.
How should my meat arrive? Why is my meat frozen?
Our meat is frozen for freshness, packaged by our suppliers, and delivered to your door in an eco-friendly, insulated box. Our boxes are designed to keep your meat within the optimal temperature range using sustainable insulation and ice packs. We suggest that you refrigerate your box as soon as it arrives, but no stress if you’re not around; your box will stay cold until around midnight on the day it arrives.
Keep in mind that even though your meat ships frozen, it is possible that it arrives thawed. Not to worry! Per the USDA, thawed meat is perfectly safe to refreeze. Toss your meat in your fridge if you plan on eating it in the next couple of days, or freeze your meat within four days of arrival. You can also always check that the internal temperature is below 40 degrees using a meat thermometer, which indicates the meat is safe to eat. Our packaging is designed to ensure that your meat stays in its optimal temperature range until around midnight on the day it arrives, but no harm in double checking, especially during warm summer months.
How should my fish arrive? Why is my fish frozen?
There’s no denying that seafood is best freshly caught and consumed same day. But unless you live near near a coast or port, buying frozen fish is the best way to consume seafood at its peak freshness.
More often than not, fish sold "fresh" at your local grocer or fish counter is previously frozen. That’s actually a good thing: unless fish is airlifted overnight from the source, it should be frozen shortly after being caught to preserve freshness.
Store-bought fish may have been frozen and thawed repeatedly before it lands on your plate. This damages the taste and quality. Our fish, on the other hand, is sourced frozen and stored at zero degrees until it ends up in your box, ensuring quality and freshness when it arrives at your door.

Where does Umamicart deliver?
We are delivering to select states in the Northeast region and expanding our coverage rapidly. Check if we deliver to you here. We’re growing quickly, so if your zip code is not currently available, join our wait list and you’ll be the first to know when we come to your area.
How do I place an order at Umamicart?
Umamicart was built for convenience and new product discovery. First, browse our selection by category, cuisine, or essentials and add the items you would like to purchase to your cart. Once you are finished shopping, continue to checkout by clicking into your cart, then selecting checkout on the bottom. Proceed through the checkout process by filling out your shipping address and billing information. You will receive a confirmation email once we have received your order. Remember that orders over $49 qualify for free shipping!
When will my order be delivered?
We offer same-day delivery (in select New York metro zip codes) and next-day delivery.
Same day orders may be placed up until 12pm on the day of delivery, and will arrived between 3:00pm and 7:30pm.
Next day orders may be placed up until 3pm the day before your delivery arrives, and will arrive between 8:00am and 8:00pm. You can also schedule your delivery for later in the week by selecting the options available to you at checkout.
How can I track the status of my order?
You can track your recent order with the tracking number provided in the shipping confirmation email. You can also log into your Umamicart account to see the status of your order and find this tracking information.
Do I need to be at home when my order is delivered?
You don’t need to be at home when your order is delivered. Deliveries will be left at your doorstep or apartment lobby. All of our deliveries are packaged in temperature-controlled boxes to ensure your orders always arrive fresh. Deliveries will stay fresh for at least 24 hours after they reach your doorstep, but we highly recommend refrigerating the items as soon as you receive them if you are expecting any perishable items in your order.
What happens if my order cannot be delivered?
While you do not need to be home to receive your box, our delivery team does need access to a safe location to leave your box, like a locked foyer, lobby, or a doorman. If we cannot leave your box in a safe place, our delivery team may call you to coordinate delivery (if you have provided a phone number). If we cannot reach you or leave your box, it will be returned to our facility and delivery will be attempted again the next day. Redelivery will be attempted up to three times. Our customer service team will contact you after the second attempt to coordinate delivery.
What are Umamicart’s delivery fees?
We offer free delivery for all orders over $49. For orders under $49, we charge a flat shipping fee of $6.99 to all locations in our current delivery area. All orders must be at least $30 before being eligible for delivery
Can I modify or cancel my order?
You may cancel an order up until two days before the order arrival date you’ve selected (i.e. if your order delivery date is Wednesday, you could cancel up until Monday midnight). This timeline ensures that we minimize food waste resulting from overestimating customer needs. We are happy to cancel and refund your order before we’ve begun working on it.
