In light of COVID-19, how have you further enhanced your safety policies and procedures?
Health and safety of our staff and customers is always a top priority.
Our staff are required to wear masks at all times and wash their hands frequently, as well as participate in contactless temperature checks in the morning.
We always ask employees feeling unwell to remain home and offer a comprehensive paid time-off policy to ensure there’s no concern over job security in doing so.
All surfaces are cleaned with extreme frequency throughout the day, with daily deep sanitation cleaning.

What is Umamicart?
Umamicart is an online Asian grocer offering a curated selection of both timeless staples and new, distinctly Asian American products and ingredients, delivered conveniently to customers’ doorsteps. We currently have products across East Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines. We are always expanding our selection and welcome recommendations! Where do you source your products?
Our team is devoted to curating a selection of high-quality and delicious products by partnering with reputable distributors and independent brands. That means every product we offer is vetted by our sourcing team, who work closely with each one of our suppliers to ensure every product is up to our standards.
How are your products assembled? / How do you keep my items from being damaged in the boxes?
Your order will arrive in an eco-friendly box, sealed with reinforced paper tape. We hand pack your box carefully to ensure that all items arrive at your door in great condition and at peak freshness, and that a safe temperature is maintained while your box is in transit. This includes:Â
- Glass and fragile items are wrapped with protective material
- Delicate fruits and vegetables are packed with protective material to prevent bruising or damage
- Heavy items, like rice, are packed at the bottom of your box
- Perishable items are packed in a insulated chamber with frozen gel packs to maintain food-safe temperatures while in transit
How do I know my food will arrive fresh?
Our boxes are designed to keep your food in a safe temperature range using sustainable insulation and ice packs. If you purchased any perishable foods, we suggest that you refrigerate your box as soon as it arrives, but no stress if you’re not around; your box will maintain temperature-safe conditions well beyond the day you are scheduled to receive your order.
How will my meats and seafood arrive?
Our meats and seafood are packaged for freshness and delivered to your door in an eco-friendly, insulated box. Our boxes are designed to keep your meat within the optimal temperature range using sustainable insulation and ice packs. We suggest that you refrigerate your box as soon as it arrives, but no stress if you’re not around; your box will maintain its food-safe temperature well after your scheduled delivery date.
Per the USDA, thawed meats and seafood are perfectly safe to refreeze. Keep them in the fridge if you plan on eating it in the next couple of days, or freeze them within three days of arrival for meats and within two days for arrival for seafood.
What product selection is available to me at my zip code?
Our product selection will vary depending on your zip code. If you see a product on our site that is not yet available to you, send us a note or check back again soon! We are constantly growing our assortment for each region.
Where does Umamicart deliver?
We deliver to most states in the United States, and are expanding our coverage rapidly. You can use our zip code checker in the menu bar to check if we deliver to you. We’re growing quickly, so if your zip code is not currently available, check back again soon!
How do I place an order at Umamicart?
Umamicart was built for convenience and new product discovery. First, browse our selection by category, cuisine, or essentials and add the items you would like to purchase to your cart. Once you are finished shopping, continue to checkout by clicking into your cart, then selecting checkout on the bottom. Proceed through the checkout process by filling out your shipping address and billing information. You will receive a confirmation email once we have received your order.
When will my order be delivered?
Shipping times will vary depending on your zip code. At checkout, you will be able to choose a shipping or delivery date for your order.
How can I track the status of my order?
You can track your order with the tracking number provided in the shipping confirmation email. You can also log into your Umamicart account on our app or website to see the status of your order and find this tracking information.
Do I need to be at home when my order is delivered?
You’re a busy person with a busy schedule! We do not require you to be at home when your order is delivered. Deliveries will be left at your doorstep or a secured location like an apartment lobby or with a doorman.
All of our deliveries are packaged in temperature-controlled boxes to ensure your orders always arrive fresh. Our boxes are designed to keep your food in within the optimal a safe temperature range using sustainable insulation and ice packs. If you purchased any perishable foods, we suggest that you refrigerate your box as soon as it arrives. Your box is designed to maintain a food-safe temperature until the end of the day on your scheduled delivery date.
What happens if my order cannot be delivered?
While you do not need to be home to receive your box, our delivery team does need access to a safe location to leave your box, like a locked foyer, lobby, or a doorman. If we cannot leave your box in a safe place, our delivery team may call you to coordinate delivery (if you have provided a phone number). If we cannot reach you or leave your box, it will be returned to our facility and our customer service team will contact you to coordinate another delivery.
What are Umamicart’s delivery fees?
Our shipping fees vary depending on your zip code. All orders must meet the delivery minimum before being eligible for delivery. You can check your cart to see the delivery minimum for your zip code.
I have an issue with my order. Who should I contact?
Sorry to hear this! For help with any issues with your order, please reach out to our customer care team here within 7 days of receiving your order and we will be happy to make this right.
When will my Subscription Box be delivered?
Subscription boxes are shipped 1-3 days after your charge date. Your first Signature Box will be shipped 1-3 days after your purchase, and all boxes following will be shipped between the 20th - 25th of every month.
Can I cancel or modify an order after I've placed it?
We aim to get your order to you as quickly as possible, which means we have designed our operation to send your order for fulfillment often as soon as it is placed. Unfortunately, this also means we are unable to make changes to your order once it has been placed. This includes canceling, delaying, modifying items, and changing your shipping address.
If you’d like to make a change after placing an order, please reach out and we will try our best to accommodate you, but we may not be able to honor all requests.If you’d like to cancel your order, please contact our Customer Support team (by emailing hello@umamicart.comor using our contact form) within 30 minutes of placing your order and we will do our best to accommodate your cancellation request. Thank you for your understanding!
What is your packaging made of?
The material we use to pack your box have been carefully selected to be sustainable and respectful of the environment. We use innovative packaging solutions made of paper, plant-based materials, recycled materials, and/or are certified to be easily biodegradable or compostable. Whenever possible, consider reusing these materials.
How do I recycle or dispose of your packaging?
We use recyclable insulation and cushioning in our packaging. Break down and flatten your corrugated cardboard box, then place it in the nearest recycling bin or collection location.
Insulation
Our insulation liners are PET fiber, sourced almost entirely from recycled drink bottles. It is fully curb side recyclable, but best to keep out of the landfill.
Ice Packs
Our ice packs are durable and reusable, and the gel refrigerant is certified safe and non-toxic. Two options to dispose of your ice packs:
- DRAIN:The refrigerant gel is 100% drain safe. With scissors, cut open the bag of the fully thawed gel pack and slowly pour down a kitchen drain with the hot tap running. Dispose of bag in normal waste streams.
- NORMAL WASTE STREAM:With scissors, make a slight cut in the bag of fully thawed gel pack and place bag in the trash.
What is Umamicart's return policy?
Your experience is important to us so if we can make it right, we will. As an online market, we rely on shipping to service our customers. To reduce our carbon footprint, we do not accept returns of any item once it ships. However, if you are unhappy with the quality of a particular item, please notify us within 7 days of receiving your order and we will do our best to remedy the issue.Â
If you still have any unopened items on hand, please feel free to donate to a local food back, like Feeding America. Simply enter your zip code into Feeding America's Food Bank Locator to find a facility near you.Â
We reserve the right to refuse any refund request if you do not make it within 7 days of delivery or if we determine, in our sole discretion, that the return policy is being abused.
